For an exported SolidCabin kit, the normal approach is to prepare the building structure so local trades can install compliant systems using locally approved materials, equipment and methods. This avoids forcing one country's wiring products, pipe standards or inspection assumptions into another jurisdiction.
This guide explains what SolidCabin prepares, what remains local, when service routes should be planned and which decisions should be made before the cabin enters production.
Are Electrical and Plumbing Systems Included in the Cabin Kit?
Electrical wiring, service panels, plumbing pipes, water heaters, sanitary connections, fixtures and locally licensed installation are not included in the standard exported cabin kit unless expressly listed in the written quotation.
These systems are usually designed, supplied and installed locally because requirements can vary by country, state, county, utility provider, water source, wastewater system, occupancy and adopted code edition.
The standard kit is a factory-prepared building package. It supplies the timber structure, model-specific components and manufacturer documents used to understand and assemble the supplied system. It does not replace the local professionals responsible for electrical, plumbing, mechanical or permit work.
The quotation and model-specific inclusion list control the scope of an individual order. Optional kitchen cabinets, bathroom joinery or selected fixtures do not mean that the concealed electrical and plumbing systems are included.
What Does SolidCabin Prepare for Local Trades?

Current SolidCabin systems may include factory-prepared service cavities or planned chases that reduce the need to cut finished timber surfaces. Their exact location, size and continuity depend on the model revision and must be confirmed from the current production drawings and assembly documents rather than assumed from an older project.
SolidCabin documents are manufacturer documents. Project-specific electrical calculations, plumbing design, utility applications, professional stamps and inspection documents remain separate unless expressly included in a written project scope.
When Should Electrical Planning Begin?
Electrical planning should begin after the floor plan is substantially confirmed and before production details are finalized.
The local electrician or designer should identify:
- Utility service location and required capacity
- Main electrical panel location
- Interior and exterior receptacles
- Lighting locations and switching
- Kitchen and appliance circuits
- Water-heater, HVAC and ventilation loads
- Smoke, carbon-monoxide and safety devices
- Exterior equipment, pumps or well systems
- Future solar, battery or generator connections
- Any required floor, wall or roof penetrations
Early planning matters because a visually clean timber interior leaves less tolerance for improvised surface wiring. A late panel relocation or new roof penetration may still be possible, but it can create visible conduits, additional trim work or production revisions.
In the United States, electrical work is typically reviewed under the locally adopted electrical code. The National Fire Protection Association describes NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code, as a benchmark for electrical design, inspection and installation. The edition and local amendments must still be confirmed with the authority having jurisdiction.
How Is Wiring Routed in a Timber Cabin?
There is no single routing method for every cabin. The correct approach depends on the wall system, insulation build-up, interior finish, foundation and local installation practice.
Common approaches include:
- Using factory-planned service cavities
- Running wiring below the floor or within a locally constructed crawl space
- Using selected partition walls as service walls
- Routing through approved chases at roof-to-wall transitions
- Using discreet surface-mounted conduit where permitted and intentionally designed
Structural posts, beams, rafters, connectors and concentrated-load areas should not be drilled or notched without checking the current drawings or obtaining technical approval.
Where insulation is installed locally, wiring sequence must also be coordinated with air-sealing, vapor-control and fire-blocking requirements. The electrical plan should not be treated as an isolated layer added after the wall has been closed.
When Should Plumbing Planning Begin?
Plumbing planning should begin at the same time as foundation planning. Water and waste lines often pass through the floor system, slab, crawl space or foundation wall, so their locations affect work that happens before the cabin kit is assembled.
The local plumbing team should confirm:
- Water source: municipal, well, tank or another approved system
- Wastewater connection: municipal sewer, septic or another approved system
- Main water-entry location
- Sanitary exit and vent routes
- Bathroom and kitchen fixture positions
- Water-heater type and location
- Freeze protection where applicable
- Access for shutoff valves, traps and maintenance
- Required pressure testing and inspection sequence
For U.S. projects, one- and two-family residential plumbing requirements are commonly addressed through locally adopted residential or plumbing codes. The International Code Council provides access to general residential plumbing requirements, but buyers must verify the edition and amendments adopted in the project jurisdiction.
Why Do the Foundation and Floor System Matter?
A slab, local crawl space, pier system and prefabricated timber floor do not create the same plumbing conditions.
Concrete Slab
Under-slab drain and water locations must normally be established before the slab is poured. Errors can be difficult and expensive to correct after concrete work is complete.
Local Crawl Space
A crawl space can make later routing and maintenance easier, but it still requires local design for frost, drainage, ventilation or conditioning, insulation, access and pest protection.
Prefabricated Timber Floor Package
A factory-prepared timber floor can simplify the cabin assembly above the foundation, but it does not replace the locally designed supporting system. Plumbing penetrations must be coordinated so they do not conflict with structural beams, joists, connectors or required insulation continuity.

Should the Kitchen and Bathroom Be Kept Close Together?
Grouping wet areas can reduce pipe runs, penetrations and labor. It can also simplify freeze protection and maintenance.
However, it is not an absolute rule. A larger model may justify separated bathrooms or another kitchen arrangement. The correct decision depends on layout quality, occupancy, foundation access, local code and the project's priorities.
When a buyer requests a major bathroom or kitchen relocation, SolidCabin should review the effect on:

- Stair and loft geometry
- Cabinet dimensions
- Service-wall availability
- Container packing and material quantities
Are Bathroom Fixtures and Kitchen Equipment Included?
Not normally as part of the standard kit.
An optional kitchen package may include cabinetry and the stated countertop when quoted. Appliances, sinks, faucets, sanitary fixtures, shower systems, waterproofing materials and locally regulated equipment are generally sourced locally unless the written quotation states otherwise.
This separation allows the buyer to select products with local approvals, replacement parts and service support.
What About HVAC, Ventilation and Water Heating?
HVAC and ventilation should be planned with electrical and plumbing systems, not after them.
The project team should determine:
- Heating and cooling loads
- Indoor and outdoor equipment locations
- Condensate drainage
- Bathroom and kitchen exhaust
- Fresh-air or balanced-ventilation requirements
- Water-heating demand

Can Electrical or Plumbing Work Be Prefabricated at the Factory?
Limited project-specific preparation may be possible, but fully factory-installed exported systems are not the default approach.
